Smelly Gas Helps Researchers Track Right Whales
North Atlantic right whales are one of the world’s most endangered whale species, and to better protect them, researchers need to be able to predict their movements. A team of scientists in Massachusetts are trying a new approach — they’re following the same scent trail the whales may be using to locate their favorite food.

Final Sanctuary Management Plan Released
In August 2023 NOAA released a Final Management Plan for Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. The plan is accompanied by a Final Environmental Assessment. Learn how the new plan will guide sanctuary management to address priority issues and implement core programs over the next 5-10 years. The final plan is available online.
