NOAA's national marine sanctuary offices and visitor centers are currently closed to the public, and in accordance with Executive Order 13991 - Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask Wearing, all individuals in NOAA-managed areas are required to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on mask-wearing and maintaining social distances. Sanctuary waters remain open for responsible use in accordance with CDC guidance, U.S. Coast Guard requirements, and local regulations. Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary and NOAA offer a variety of opportunities for student participation. These contests may be organized solely by the sanctuary, by NOAA, or in cooperation with partnering organizations.

Marine Art Contest - Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary and the Gulf of Maine

Open to Students in Grades K-12
Divisions: K-4, 5-8, 9-12, computer graphics/graphic design, scientific illustration
Deadline: April 25, 2010


The Annual Marine Art Contest, sponsored by the Massachusetts Marine Educators, the sanctuary, the New England Aquarium and several other groups is now open. Students are invited to submit artwork that illustrates this year's theme - "Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary and the Gulf of Maine." All media are allowed; please refrain from sending collages with sand or other fine attachments. There will be a winner, second place and third place in each division. Contest prizes include passes to the New England Aquarium, cash, gift certificates, and other items. Click here for a pdf flyer about the contest.
