2014 Marine Art Contest
There were 797 entries this year, representing 6 states (although the majority came from Massachusetts). Artwork was judged on creativity, technique and accuracy of artwork in complying with the contest theme of "Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Winning artwork and several of the honorable mentions have been framed and will become part of a traveling exhibit that will tour public venues starting in July and continuing throughout the 2014-2015 school year. Look for our announcement for the 2015 contest in the fall.
This year we offered special awards to highlight sanctuary species diversity. Here are the winners of these new honors:
Fish Award: Saiya Rivera, gr. 9, Greater Lawrence Tech School, Andover. Wolffish
Invertebrate Award: Keegan Gilmore, gr. 12, Nauset Reg HS. Squid and Shrimp
Marine Mammal Award: Mary Negri, gr. 11, Falmouth HS. Minke Whale woodcut
Seabird Award: Daniel X., gr. 8, Marshall Simonds MS, Burlington. Great Shearwater
Sea Turtle Award: Meghna Tummala, gr. 9, Washtenaw Intl. HS, Ypsilanti, MI. Green Sea Turtles
