NOAA Names Massachusetts Resident Environmental Hero, Award Presented
at First Fish Count

The National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations (NOAA) Gerry E. Studds
Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary (SBNMS) will honor local photographer
and videographer, Robert Michelson, as one of this years Environmental
Heroes. Michelson is being recognized for his work developing a volunteer
dive team as well as his role in educating the public about the diversity
of marine life in the waters surrounding Stellwagen Bank. Sanctuary
Superintendent Craig MacDonald will present the award at a public ceremony
at Brant Rock Beach in Marshfield.
After
the presentation, the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuarys
volunteer divers will participate in a training dive for the first-ever
Great American Fish Count (GAFC) in the Gulf of Maine on Sunday, July
1, 2001. The GAFC will take place in the Sanctuary throughout July,
2001. The press is invited to attend the training dive.
